Below are Our Available Pasture Mates

Biography of a Trotter
I saw him first, a spindle legged colt
That grew into a high class two-year-old,
And what a grand race horse he was at three!
That won enough to make the old home free.

Then on the "Grand" I saw him meet the best,
And there he surely got the acid test.
But an oaken heart and iron legs,
And a little luck in getting the breaks,

Made him the kind of horse you dream about.
But time and greed finally wore him out,
And now that his racing days were over
I felt sure they'd turn him out in clover;

But he went to the yearly sale instead,
May the recording angel mark that in red;
I last saw him pulling a peddler's cart,
And turned away with an aching heart.

JOSEPH LANIG (1936)

Although this poem was written in 1936, it's still true today. The horse in the poem could be any one of a thousand horses. He could be any of the 60 SRF Companion Horses. These are horses that probably will never be adopted because of age or injury. SRF will care for them for life. These wonderful horses may or may not have earned a lot of money while racing but don't they all deserve a dignified life when their racing days are over? AT SRF providing good care for life is our mission.  Won't you help us help the horses and make a donation today?

OK Crown N

Crownie is a gentle mare with a torn suspensory. She is very sound in the pasture, easy to work with, and loves to give kisses..

Orange Peel

OP is a peach of a mare. More than 10 years ago she was adopted from another organization for use in a therapeutic riding program in Pennsylvania. She helped kids with special needs for more than a decade. When the therapeutic riding program was discontinued, OP had no place to go. SRF accepted OP into their program, even though there is little chance she will ever be adopted. Because of her age, OP's teeth and digestive system can only tolerate a certain kind of grain and hay, which is very expensive. During her years of loyal, gentle service as a therapeutic riding horse, OP made a difference in the lives of many children.
