The SRF has adopted these horses to great homes.

Fred Astaire (aka "Handsome")

Jacqueline and Michael Brando of Willet, NY adopted Handsome for their daughter, Michaela, in February of this year. They finally had a chance to get he and Michaela out together on a nice day for a ride...

According to the Brandos:

"Fred's doing well and he has definitely found his spot out here with our family. Caela really enjoys taking care of him and giving him lots of love.  He loves to be brushed and comes when you call his name...of course, he answers to Handsome, which he is!"

Osbourne's Shy Cam (aka "Ozzie")

Martin Keynton of Wall Township, NJ adopted Ozzie for his daughter, Amanda, in April of this year. Amanda hopes to participate in the NJ Shodeo Association's 9 shows this season - including barrel racing and team penning.

Good luck this summer with Shodeo Amanda and enjoy trail riding with Ozzie at the Manasquan Reservoir, as well!!

Giddyup Girl!!!

June's Legacy (aka "Legacy")

"She is a beautiful horse and we all love her. Thanks for the opportunity."

Sincerely, The Grego Family

Flight Deck Lex (aka "Lexie")

Adopted by Mary Geer of West Belmar, NJ for her daughter, Lisa. Lexie and Lisa are having a lot of fun together these days!

Gambler (aka Ideal Performer)

Recently adopted by Kimberly Helterbridle, it just goes to show that horses know the saying you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. "They do love each other...lol... I just wanted to share that they finally accept Gambler... My two geldings are like pals now... "

JK Mardi Gras

"Jake is such a good guy that there is not much to train. Every time I get more than one horse to ride neither gets the time they need. As far as handling and manners, he's great already. I have attached a couple pictures. One of Jake being a camera hog and one of my boys grazing." Adopter Sherre Rusenko

mscoot

Mighty Scoot (aka "Norman")

Adopted by Jen Kohlmeier of Northampton, PA

After having lost her 4 year old gelding last December that she adopted from the SRF, "Western Boots," Jen decided to adopt another horse. According to Jen, "Norman has SUCH expression in his eyes and everyone loves him here."

Taliah and Thunder are enjoying the beautiful spring weather, this duo are inseparable. Her Mom Fatimah gets to ride too, this horse is a member of the family now!

ch1

Chowder House

Adopted by Cathy Larson of New Egypt, NJ:

"I just had to tell you, again, how happy I am to have Chowder.  I have been riding him quite a lot.  Every chance I get I take him out on the trials.  He will go through anything I ask him to.  He is just such a lot of fun to ride. Let me tell you, he is learning so fast I cannot believe it either.

ch2

He neck reins with no problem, that was fast too.  When I first would be mounting him, he would walk off.  Well, I worked on that with him, just one time by using a bucket and standing next to him and laying across him and saying "stand" well...NOW...he stands there until I ask him to move forward.

Thank you, thank you, thank you...he is fantastic...I love him so much already!"

ctara

Courtland Tara

Adopted by Deborah Miller of Yaphank, NY:

"I went down to see another (SRF) horse that I quickly discovered was not for me.  I walked her back to the field disappointed and telling myself that I would just wait for the right horse to come along. I released the horse into the field and stood stock still with a heavy heart.
As I gazed into the distance a rather large horse began to approach me. She nuzzled me and I looked into the soul of her warm brown eyes. I asked about her and found out that she was available. I tacked Tara up and rode her.

(continued...)

The poor gal - I had an English bit and Western saddle. My conditioned responses were quite mixed up. No matter what leg aid I used she understood. Her impulsion was wonderful. She was truly bombproof. Tractors, cell phones, nothing received more than a glance from her. And when my girth loosened and I rolled rather ungracefully off, she stood still and waited. I mostly appreciated the fact that she did not laugh at me.  I am looking forward to loving this statuesque and awesome beauty."

From Blind Companion Horse...

loop

*** TJ's Kahn ***

Sue Straumann of Alloway, NJ first saw this totally blind horse on our website last year and knew she would be up to the challenge of adopting him. Her other rescued horse, Henry, longed for the company of another horse. Both horses have settled down very quickly to a life filled with endless carrots and treats.

To a New Career as a Rideable Horse!!

*** TJ's Kahn ***

Having not been ridden since he went totally blind almost 6 years ago, TJ successfully demonstrated his ability to trust in Sue completely. At the ripe age of 22, he did everything she asked and actually seemed to enjoy being ridden again. Thank you Sue for sharing your amazing story with us!

First at Last

"Just wanted to e-mail you some pictures of my horse "Apache." I adopted him in November 2003. He is the best! I could not ask for a better companion. My friends call me the little tot on him because I am only 5'3" and Apache is 16.1hands. They think it is so funny, in a good way of course. One of these days, I hope we will find our own place so I can adopt another horse...I can't wait! This is my younger son Jeffrey riding Apache. Jeffrey loves him a lot, also. He is such a ham!"
